Forget Casemiro, one Manchester United player will be the most disappointed on the pitch after Palace defeat

Casemiro had a night to forget during Manchester United’s defeat to Crystal Palace, with the Red Devils sliding to a horrific 4-0 defeat.

The Brazilian international was playing out of position at centre-back, and the sooner this ‘needs-must’ solution can end, the better.

Casemiro was dribbled past eight times during the defeat. But for the midfielder-turned-defender, this was just another poor performance to file along with a season full of them.

For Mason Mount, this defeat had a little more significance and extra reason to be disappointed.

Mason Mount has extra reason to be disappointed

Mason Mount trudged off the pitch along with his Manchester United teammates reflecting on a blown opportunity.

The midfielder has struggled since his transfer move from Chelsea last summer, which increasingly looks like an unwise choice of ways to spend £55 million.

Mount is a fine player, he just was not what Manchester United needed. He has been badly impacted by injuries, although has worked his way back to fitness in recent weeks.

Last night at Selhurst Park, Mount got the opportunity he had been waiting for ever since he signed at United, to step in instead of Bruno Fernandes.

Mount has, until now, been asked to slot in around Fernandes. Last night the club captain missed a rare game due to injury, giving the former Chelsea man a chance.

Unfortunately for Mount, it went terribly. He was part of a team which went down 4-0, and he was unable to show anything of note.

He had just one shot at goal which was blocked, and created no chances. This was despite United having 58 per cent possession, he completed only 21 passes and had 36 touches.

The worry for Mount is that Fernandes will be back for the next game against Arsenal, he was sorely missed.

How long will it be before Mount gets another start? Will it even be this season?

Number seven shirt looks too big for Mount

Mason Mount was given the number seven shirt last summer, an iconic number at Manchester United. He is nowhere near justifying it.

At the moment the shirt looks too big for him, we are not seeing Mount’s football personality on the pitch.

We hope last night is as low as it gets for Mount and Manchester United, however, Erik ten Hag‘s side have been plunging new depths, so you never quite know.
