Luton Town have been relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the 2023/24 season after failing to perform an extraordinary escape job, with Nottingham Forest confirming their place in the top flight.
The Hatters were all but relegated heading into Gameweek 38, trailing 17th-place Forest by three points with a 12-goal deficit in goal difference to make up.
Any hope of a miracle was extinguished early on when Forest raced into a 2-0 lead at Burnley inside 15 minutes thanks to Chris Wood's brace, with Luton ultimately fell to a 4-2 defeat themselves.
Rob Edwards' side won admirers for their enterprising and forward-thinking approach and managed their first win in September with a 2-1 success at Everton.
Luton impressed during tight defeats to title challengers Manchester City and Arsenal in back-to-back games in December and looked to have found their feet with consecutive victories over Newcastle United and Sheffield United.
However, they have only won two league games this calendar year and a run-in that yielded only one point their last six matches means they will play in the second tear next season alongside Sheffield United and Burnley.
Forest, meanwhile, had to overcome a four-point penalty for financial breaches and replaced Steve Cooper with Nuno Espirito Santo in the manager's dugout.
It is only the second time in Premier League history the three promoted teams have all been relegated straight away. The first campaign that occurred in was 1997/98, when Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace dropped back down to the Championship.
The Blades were the first team to have their demotion confirmed in late April following a heavy 5-1 defeat at Newcastle. The Clarets followed them in Gameweek 37 following a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
