The starters for this year’s NBA All-Star Game were announced on Thursday, and the usual suspects were there, as were some new ones. Los Angeles Lakers uber star LeBron James was named Captain of the Western Conference—it’s his 18th time being named an All-Star, tying Kobe Bryant for second place all-time behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (19). It was most likely a pipe dream, anyway. But now it’s official: Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, the conference’s leading vote-getter, will not play in the NBA All-Star game on February 20 as he continues to rehab from a sprained MCL. On Friday, April 2, Major League Baseball announced that it had abandoned its plan to play the midsummer classic in Atlanta due to ongoing pressure from civil rights groups and the Major League Baseball Players Association. In a statement, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that after conversations with players, staff, officials and teams, he had concluded that “the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft.” The league is still finalizing where the All-Star Game will take place instead of Atlanta. Earlier this week, Manfred strongly ...
