A pair of former Wildcats were among the NBA’s five best defenders from this past season. On Tuesday afternoon, the NBA announced the 2023-24 All-Defensive First and Second Teams. Making the First Team were Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo and Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis. The one-time Kentucky players were joined on the First Team by Defensive Player of the Year winner Rudy Gobert (Timberwolves), rookie Victor Wembanyama (Spurs), and Herb Jones (Pelicans). For Adebayo, this is his debut on the All-Defensive First Team after being named to the Second Team the last four seasons. Earlier...

Bam Adebayo is widely recognized as one of the NBA’s best overall defenders, but his first Defensive Player of the Year award continues to elude him. On Tuesday night ahead of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics, the NBA revealed that Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been named the league’s 2023-24 Defensive Player of the Year. This is Gobert’s fourth time winning the award. Adebayo came in third in voting — his highest finish since arriving in the NBA ahead of the 2017-18 season — with a total of 91 points. Gobert receive...

By the end of Wednesday night’s Game 5, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro looked more than ready to start their extended summer vacation. The former Kentucky Wildcats turned Miami Heat stars came to Boston trailing the first-round series against the top-seeded Celtics, 3-1. Another loss would send 8-seed Miami home for good. And after losing Games 3 and 4 by a combined 34 points, the Heat didn’t exactly seem inspired to keep its postseason going for another couple of days. The Celtics dominated Game 5 from start to finish, winning by a final score of 118-84 and advancing to the Eastern Conference Se...

The Heat erased Boston’s homecourt advantage, winning Game 2 in Boston by a final score of 111-101 and knotting the series at 1-1 as the venue now shifts to South Beach. Tyler Herro nailed six of Miami’s 23 shots from beyond the arc, totaling 24 points, 14 assists, and five rebounds i...

The other two MVP candidates are Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic, who is trying to win his third MVP Award in the last four years. A former Wildcat has never won an NBA MVP. SGA was one of three players in the NBA who averaged more than 30 points per game, finishing with a caree...

Kentucky owns the NBA. Yes, the embarrassment of riches that has passed through the halls of the Craft Center should have led to more championship banners in Rupp over the last 15 years, but that is a gripe for another day. Former ‘Cats own the NBA right now in a way that a single college may never duplicate or even come close to mimicking ever again. Case in point: There is a Kentucky player in the running for every major NBA player award this season and several of them are favored to win it. Last year, we saw De’Aaron Fox win the inaugural Clutch Player of the Year award, but he was the only...
