Pete Davidson will be tagging along with five other paying customers for a space flight through Jeff Bezos‘ space tourism company Blue Origin, according to a Monday morning press release from the new venture. The flight, which will be on the company’s New Shepherd rocket, will take place on March 23. The New Shepherd has made three flights and has featured celebrity passengers to drum up stories around the flights such as Michael Strahan and William Shatner. Other paying passengers included angel investors Marty Allen, husband and wife Marc, and Sharon Hagle, a real estate developer and nonpro...

Star Trek star William Shatner headed into space on Wednesday morning – and returned to Earth safely a few minutes later. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the flight took off without a hitch after a weather delay. “As part of today’s Flight Readiness Review, the mission operations team confirmed the vehicle has met all mission requirements and astronauts began their training today,” Blue Origin said. “Weather is the only gating factor for the launch window.” Seventy-five m.p.h. winds were seen in the launch area for Tuesday made it too dangerous to proceed. Shatner has been to space many time...

Former Star Trek star William Shatner may be heading on another space journey, this time in an actual spaceship and not a film set. The 90-year old actor is in talks with billionaire tycoon Jeff Bezos about joining a trip to space in October. Shatner would be the oldest person to head to space, taking that title from 82-year old Wally Funk, who also went on the first passenger space trip with Bezos. The travel to the “final frontier” will be filmed for an upcoming documentary about space tourism. The trip in October will be Blue Origin’s second trip to space. The first one was back in July. ...

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos went to space Tuesday morning with a little less pomp and circumstance (and branding) than his competitor, Richard Branson. The four passengers, now astronauts, boarded New Shepherd around 8:30 a.m., walking across the adjacent tower’s bridge in their matching blue flight suits. The launch, which was webcast live, took place around 45 minutes later, after all the necessary checks from “com central.” The Amazon founder, his brother Mark Bezos, special guest Wally Funk, and Blue Origin’s first-paying customer Oliver Daemon, blasted off in a billowing dust cloud at 9:15 ...

Blue Origin’s anonymous auction winner, who paid over $28 million to be a passenger on New Shepherd’s next test ride, has decided to stay on earth, for the time being. The winner had to give up their seat due to “scheduling conflicts,” but will still make it to space on a future ride. Wasting no time, Jeff Bezos has already chosen a replacement, one of the runner-ups in the auction who will break records following New Shepard’s takeoff. Oliver Daemon is not only Blue Origin’s first paying customer, but he will also be the youngest person in space at 18-years-old, setting a trend for commercial...

On Sunday afternoon, Richard Branson won the billionaire space race as Virgin Galactic’s latest test flight carried him 50 miles above sea level. Virgin Galactic live-streamed the entire event, which ended up at a little over two hours, from the spacecraft’s mid-flight detachment to the commercial astronaut’s post-landing speech. For the live stream, Branson personally recruited talk show host Stephen Colbert, whose narration brought a mix of realist humor and dreamy optimism to the occasion. The businessman’s trip above 50 miles marks the first commercial space flight to carry its CEO to the ...

Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson announced on Thursday evening that his company’s next flight will be on July 11, just nine days beforeJeff Bezos‘ trip to space. Branson, along with several employees and pilots, will be on board for what will be the shuttle’s fourth test ride. He was initially supposed to be on the shuttle’s second demo coming up, but in an apparent move to outdo Bezos’ Blue Origin, he moved the timeline up. Up until Wednesday, Branson had refused to make any public comment on when he would be going to space. He had to follow certain restrictions in place for his public...

On July 20, the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark Bezos, an unknown passenger and the highest bidder at an auction will be taking off toward the stars. The spacecraft New Shepherd, which can hold up to six people and flies autonomously, will take the four passengers to the barrier of the earth’s atmosphere. It will briefly break into the vacuum of space, allowing the group to float in zero gravity for about three minutes before returning to earth. Besos’ aerospace company Blue Origin, which he founded in 2000 and still owns, is responsible for the com...

Jeff Bezos is ready to leave Earth. The founder of the tech giant Amazon will be one of the passengers aboard the spacecraft New Shepherd for its maiden voyage outside the Earth’s atmosphere. Bezos, thanks to his space company Blue Origin, will be the first of the billionaires to experience space travel, before Elon Musk‘s SpaceX and Richard Branson‘s Virgin Galactic. After years of secrecy, Blue Origin announced New Shepherd’s scheduled flight in May. The company is also still running an auction for a seat aboard the craft. The bidding has already reached around $2.8 million and garnered inte...
