BMW’s latest rider aid for its upmarket motorcycles is a shift assistant which should make pulling away on steep hills less stressful. Even with a quick-shifter, which has become commonplace on several larger motorbikes in recent years, the rider still has to operate the clutch. The need to slip the clutch makes it harder when pulling away in traffic with the extra weight of a pillion passenger and luggage and also on steep gradients or rough road surfaces. Industry experts have said the move towards automatic changes on large touring motorcycles mirrors the growing popularity of automatic car...

The model changeover of BMW's important 5 Series vehicle had a negative impact on the figures, as did the higher proportion of fully electric cars, which are less profitable to sell for the company. The company's profit margin before interest and taxes in the car business, perhaps the most importa...

That's because the next generation of the popular small car will also see a new digital assistant go into series production. "It has its very own character, British accent and a touch of English humour", said Forsyth, who works as a programmer at the manufacturer's tech office in Silicon Valley. Forsyth quipped that he was once reprimanded by the car for being a late riser by the chatbot when he onc...

German carmaker BMW has broken ground on a new vehicle battery factory in Germany, a spokesman confirmed to dpa on Tuesday. The plant, located in the Bavarian towns of Irlbach and Straßkirchen, is scheduled to build up to 600,000 high-voltage batteries per year once completed.
