A range of organizations including Just Stop Oil and Palestine Action could be banned in the UK as "extreme protest groups" under new proposals tabled by a senior government adviser. The approach currently applied to terrorist organizations should be used as a model, according to adviser on political violence John Woodcock, also known as Lord Walney, the BBC reported on Sunday, citing extracts from the report. In recommendations now due to be presented to the Cabinet, Woodcock backs proscribing groups that "routinely use criminal tactics to try to achieve their aims." "Militant groups like Pal...

Former British defence secretary Ben Wallace has warned against suggestions that the conflict in Ukraine should be frozen, during an interview that addressed the outlook in the war with Russia. The idea of "freezing" the war in Ukraine was put forward recently by a senior member of Germany's governing Social Democrats. "In 2014 they froze the conflict and Ukraine had 18,000 soldiers murdered on the front line between 2014 and the invasion," Wallace said in an interview with dpa on Thursday. "Russia would re-arm, re-equip and do what it did after 2014. And it would come back later," he added. "...

"I think the reason is you can't incrementally help Ukraine, you know, a bit of this and a bit of that. Do we want Ukraine to win? Or do we want them to lose?" Wallace said. While he understands Scholz's reasons for concern regarding a possible escalation of the conflict, these are unfounded, Wallace said. "There are some serial agitators," he added, saying he used ...
