Def Leppard has released “Just Like ‘73,” a surprise collaboration with guitarist Tom Morello. You can listen to the new song below. According to Morello, he’s a longtime fan of the Sheffield hard rock legends. “I played ‘Rock of Ages’ in my college cover band nearly 40 years ago,” he shared in a press release. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist takes the lead on the guitar solo, using his distinctive whammy bar to further enhance the vintage vibes of “Just Like ‘73.” As the title suggests, Def Leppard had their own early days as music fans in mind as they were working on the new music. “W...

Def Leppard are giving fans a sneak peek at their upcoming single “Just Like ‘73.” “Light up the fuel. Just Like 73. Hotline Now Open,” declares a message from the band on social media (Def Leppard, it should be noted, didn’t form until ’76). The post is accompanied by a pair of phone numbers – one for the U.S., another for the U.K. Fans who call the hotline are greeted with a recorded message, followed by a short snippet of “Just Like ‘73.” The teaser is certainly enough to get Def Leppard fans excited. Backed by a propulsive backbeat, Joe Elliott can be heard singing what appears to be the t...

Joe Elliott released a short impassioned video after discovering that some Def Leppard fans had been scammed out of money by someone impersonating the singer online. The singer interrupted a demo recording session to plead with people to think carefully before assuming messages from out of the blue were real, and condemned the environment in which it’s happening more and more often. “A friend of mine just emailed me with another one of these ‘have you seen this one’ fake Joe Elliott emails, where somebody has successfully scammed money out of some of our fans,” he said in the clip below. Here are 10 rock and metal musicians who have little dogs. Members of Slipknot, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Motley Crue and more are among headbangers who juxtapose their life in heavy music with some of the cutest pups you’ve ever seen. Of course, being in a rock or metal band does not and should not define every pre-conceived notion any one person may have. While others in the world may paint rock and metal fans as dangerous, reckless brutes without a moral compass, we know this community is full of a bunch of tender-hearted people who love animals. Especially tiny animals. Gary Holt and Rob Ha...

Def Leppard is commonly associated with the new wave of British heavy metal which sprung up in the early ‘80s. Yet, frontman Joe Elliott has revealed that he doesn’t like the metal label, calling it a “silly, silly term.” “I have an issue with the term heavy metal,” the singer confessed during an appearance on The Rockoneurs podcast, “because everybody outside of rock always thinks if you’re in a heavy metal band, it’s like bad news.” Elliott went on to explain that the term heavy metal carries a certain lowbrow quality. “You get this impression that everybody’s a moron,” he remarked. The fron...

Joe Elliott has looked back on Def Leppard’s classic song “Photograph,” revealing some fortuitous circumstances that helped inspire the song. By Elliott’s account, he and his bandmates were “penniless” while they worked on their 1983 album Pyromania. At the time, the singer was living in a small apartment in the English town of Isleworth, and the home was not in very good shape. “The previous tenant, obviously on a drunken rampage one night, had punched a hole through the bathroom wall,” Elliott recalled during an appearance on The Rockonteurs podcast. “So it looked like The Shawshank Redempti...

Def Leppard came to realize that they were into something different. [The] New Wave of British Heavy Metal, a lot of it wasn’t very professional and a lot of it wasn’t very deep, guitarist Phil Collen told UCR recently. When producer Mutt Lange started working with Def Leppard, he pushed them hard. “How come you take so long doing these songs,” Collen recalled someone asking Lange, in the Hysteria period. “So you’ll be talking about it in 30 years,” came the reply. Now more than 40 years on, Lange has been proven correct, time and time again, when it comes to 1983’s Pyromania, his second colla...
