German telecommunications firm Deutsche Telekom has seen its net profit plunge 87.1% to €1.98 billion ($2.15 billion) in the first quarter, down from €15.36 billion in the same period last year, the company announced on Thursday. German trade union Verdi called a nationwide strike on Sunday at Deutsche Telekom's customer service department as negotiations continue over pay and conditions. The strikes would continue on Monday, Verdi said. More negotiations between the union and the telecoms firm are set for Monday and Tuesday in Potsdam near Berlin.
