A growing number of imported electric cars, many of them from China, are stuck at the ports of Europe as manufacturers and distributors struggle with a slowdown in sales. The ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge in Belgium are reportedly flooded with EVs from China, however, the port told Euronews that it is not only Chinese vehicles which are involved. But they did not disclose any other exporter countries contributing to the problem. However, Le Monde reported that at Calloo, near Antwerp, and Zeebrugge, the huge parking lots to accommodate 130,000 freshly shipped vehicles, are cramped now with Ch...

Nissan has pledged another £2billion to its British factory with the confirmation of two fully electric SUVs. While the announcement doesn’t yet herald new jobs at the Sunderland plant, it secures the positions of those already employed in the years to come. The plant is consistently one of Europe’s most productive, with one car rolling off its production lines every two minutes. It produced 325,458 vehicles in the 23/24 fiscal year. Nissan has confirmed three EV models will make up that number in the years to come, enough to swell the potential investment in both its car factory and EV36Zero ...

Paving the way is a €650million investment that’s already seen construction begin on a new assembly line and body shop; space was freed up when internal combustion engine production halted in 2023, moving overseas to other BMW facilities. “Munich is the beating heart of BMW,” says Plant Munich director Peter Weber. “We are delighted to be guiding the Munich plant into a fully electric future, starting with the Neue Klasse sedan.” BMW’s Neue Klasse philosophy kickstarted its mainstream car range in the 1960s and is being reinvented for the electric era with the launch of six new models in two y...

After meetings in France and Serbia, Xi will travel to Hungary to meet with President Viktor Orbán and talk cars, among other economic issues. China regards Hungary as one of its closest European partners. Beijing has invested heavily in electric vehicle factories. In 2022, Chinese-made electric cars accounted for just under 4 percent of the European market, compared with just 1.4 percent in 2019. The spike prompted an investigation by the European Commission to find out whether Chinese state subsidies are artificially deflating prices to the detriment of European manufacturers. It has until J...

Shares in Aston Martin plunged by as much as 14% on Wednesday after the struggling luxury carmaker revealed worse than expected first quarter losses. The company said it had sunk £139m (€162.52m) into the red during the first three months of the year, as losses rose almost 90% compared to £74m a year ago. This stemmed from a 10% fall in overall sales to £268m, largely fuelled by a 63% drop in the number of SUVs sold. The results come after the executive chairman of the car maker, Lawrence Stroll, criticised the UK Government’s net zero ban on petrol cars. 'I design James Bond’s car': meet Asto...

Incredible technological advancements have been made in autonomous vehicles, from the integration of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to advancements in AI and machine learning, that promise a transformative impact for the automotive industry. Yet, despite their clear benefits — greater cost-efficiency, less traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions — widespread adoption of autonomous technology remains elusive. If history is our guide, we risk repeating the same missteps with autonomous driving as with electric transportation. For a century, the technology for electric vehi...

Europe is not yet on track with its energy transition goals, but it is best positioned to succeed in reaching them, according to French multinational energy management company Schneider Electric. In order for Europe to reach climate neutrality by 2050, it needs to carry out its energy transition through increasing its contribution of renewables and the phasing out of fossil fuels. But the energy crisis that followed Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 led to a setback in the continent's achievements and higher emissions. Talking to Euronews Business at the company's recent innovation summit i...

In an unusual move, EU auditors have warned the EU’s industrial sovereignty is at risk if it sticks to a de facto 2035 ban on petrol and diesel cars without addressing its dependency on overseas suppliers for raw materials and batteries needed to produce electric vehicles. Recent revision of CO2 standards for cars and vans sets the tailpipe emissions limit to zero from 2035, the end point of 15 years to date of increasingly stringent emissions standards. “Has this contributed to reducing vehicles’ real world emissions in line with the EU’s green ambitions?” asked ECA member Nikolaos Milionis. ...
