Three former Minneapolis police officers were found guilty by a jury of violating George Floyd‘s civil rights. Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane were charged with depriving Floyd of medical care. Kueng and Thao were also charged with failing to step in as ex-officer Derek Chauvin pinned Floyd down with excessive force for nearly 10 minutes, which ended up killing him. The three officers could face life sentences in prison but will remain free until their sentencing date, which has not yet been set. “The Justice Department will continue to seek accountability for law enforcement offi...

The St. Louis couple who brandished their guns outside their home as Black Lives Matter protesters walked on their street after the death of George Floyd have been placed on probation as lawyers. The Missouri Supreme Court put a delayed suspension on the McCloskeys’ law licenses and instead put them on a two-year probation. That means that the couple will still be able to practice, but if they violate probation by breaking any more laws, the suspension will go into effect. “I think the reason why we were asked to be suspended had more to do with politics than anything else,” Mark McCloskey sai...

George Floyd could receive a posthumous full pardon, after a recommendation by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, for a 2004 drug charge he received in Houston. Five months ago, Houston public defender Allison Mathis submitted a clemency application for Floyd, whose death sparked national outcry and protests. A Minneapolis firefighter testified at the murder trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin on Wednesday saying that police stopped her, a trained EMT, from helping George Floyd who died under the knee of the former Officer Chauvin. “There was a man being killed,” said Genevieve Hansen, who testified in her formal firefighter uniform. “I would have been able to provide medical attention to the best of my abilities. And this human was denied that right.” Hansen explained that while Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, and even once Floyd was unconscious, a separate police officer forc...

The state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division upheld the New York Police Department’s decision to fire Daniel Pantaleo, the officer involved in the 2014 death of Eric Garner. A five-judge panel ruled that, due to evidence pointing to Pantaleo’s reckless behavior, firing the officer was an appropriate decision. Former police commissioner James O’Neil fired Pantaleo in August 2019 following a department disciplinary trial. However, Pantaleo recently went to court, seeking reinstatement as an officer. Pantaleo’s lawyer argued that his client’s termination was “shocking to one’s sense of fairness.”...
