One of the most famous jersey numbers in sports (think Michael Jordan), Purdue has had arguably its best football player wear No. 23. In basketball, two of its top 20 players ever wore the two and the three across their chest. It is a number of distinction in Boilermaker annals. In the coming weeks for some (hopefully) good off-season content, we will look at the most iconic jersey numbers shared by Purdue’s basketball and football teams. I understand it will limit us to numbers 1 to 55 (the highest number one can have in hoops). And, of course, because everybody does, we will rank the top per...

As 2023 wound down, Purdue saw a changing of the guard in its wide receiver room. Before the Old Oaken Bucket game, TJ Sheffield announced he would enter the transfer portal. Soon after, Deion Burks and Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen joined him. Purdue’s three “opening day” starters at wide receiver all had departed. While not a wide receiver, Garrett Miller led the tight ends in receiving before transferring to Texas A&M for his final season. Converted wide receiver Tyrone Tracy ran out of eligibility before getting drafted by the New York Giants. Add it all up, and the Boilermakers will replace the bu...

Purdue safety Sanoussi Kane became the second Boilermaker picked on Saturday, going in the 7th round (250th overall) to the Ravens. Kane is the first Purdue player ever drafted by the Ravens. The last Boilermaker safety drafted was Ricardo Allen by the Falcons in 2014 (5th round). RB Tyrone Tracy was picked in the 5th round by the Giants today. “I feel I can do a lot of things at the next level,” said Kane at Purdue’s pro day. “I started games at corner, I started games at safety, I started games in the box, I can pass rush if I need to. … Wherever they need me, I’m willing to play.” A key pie...

The last Purdue running back drafted was Zander Horvath, who went in the seventh round of the 2022 draft to the Chargers. While Horvath is more of a fullback, the last pure Purdue running back picked was Edwin Watson in 1998 by the Packers in the seventh round. The only other Purdue running back currently in the NFL is the Dolphins’ ...
