If you’re anything like me, you can relate to this statement. My dad is a huge part of the reason why I fell in love with sports. Ever since I can remember, some kind of game has been plastered on the living room TV almost every single day. While dads stereotypically love sports, grilling, and mowing the lawn, the other KSR interns and I have so much more to say about our dads. So, in honor of all the dads out there, you are loved, you are celebrated, and this is your day. Happy Father’s Day from everyone here at KSR. No, I didn’t get a chance to ask one of my childhood heroes a question, but I don’t care. Just being near the guy was mind-boggling. It almost didn’t happen. Let me explain how these stars aligned. First and foremost, I am right in the middle of the generation that grew up loving golf because of Tiger Woods. He won the PGA Championship at Valhalla just a few months before my eighth birthday. My favorite t-shirt had Tiger Woods on...

Why is the Kentucky Derby such a Big Deal? It’s a question I never thought to consider until 2008, my first Kentucky Derby. I was not a guest, but a security guard stationed next to an MP from Ft. Knox. A northeast native, he did not understand all of the hubbub behind the two-minute race around the track. That weekend he asked the question to anybody willing to respond. Why is the Kentucky Derby such a Big Deal? At only 16 years old, I did not have a good answer to the question. The Kentucky Derby was just a part of life. Shutting down a city for a fireworks show to celebrate a 2-minute horse...

Although Ashland, Kentucky holds a population of just over 20,000 people, the community is coming together for 17-year-old Atayveon “Tay” Thomas.
