There are no moral victories in professional sports. Playing better or coming close doesn’t count for much at all. However, there is something to be said for trending in the right direction. The Cincinnati Reds, despite losing two out of three to the Milwaukee Brewers, continue to play better baseball. They have won 13 of their last 20 games and eight of their last 12. Sitting at 34-37 isn’t great, but when you consider where they were less than a month ago it is certainly progress. Another reason for some continued optimism is how the Cincinnati Reds are playing against the best competition. ...

There is no hotter team in Major League Baseball right now than the Cincinnati Reds. Their winning streak was snapped at seven games on Sunday as the Chicago Cubs avoided the sweep with a 4-2 victory. However, the Reds have still won 12 of their last 16 games and have gotten themselves right back into the thick of the National League playoff picture. At 32-34 overall, they sit six and a half games out of first place in the Central. As for the Wild Card, the Reds are tied with the Giants, Cubs, and Cardinals for the third and final playoff spot. Monday will mark the first of two off days this w...

Sitting at 26-33 over a third of the way into the season doesn’t exactly feel good. However, the Cincinnati Reds have managed two win six of their last nine games to build some positive momentum. The Milwaukee Brewers seem to be running away with the National League Central, but the Reds are still right in the thick of the playoff picture. Despite being seven games below .500, they sit just two and a half games out the final wild card spot. If Cincinnati can continue to string together series wins they can really turn this season around. The Reds got an important series win over the weekend ta...

It has officially gone from bad to worse for the Cincinnati Reds. When the team departed on a 10-day, 10-game west coast road trip they were on an eight game free fall of a losing streak. Then, despite winning the first game of the series in San Francisco, they would finish the trip with a 3-7 record. The offense is still struggling mightily, the bullpen can’t hold a lead even when given a rare one, and the losses are piling up in a hurry. To put it plainly, the Reds are in the thick of the danger zone. False hope and talk of the season being young has to end at some point and now the sample s...

When the week began, the Cincinnati Reds were 16-13 after beating the Padres 5-2 on Monday night. Since then, it feels like the wheels have fallen off. A season-high five game losing streak ensued as the Reds would drop below .500 for the first time this season following Saturday’s loss. Then, things went from bad to worse on Sunday as the Baltimore Orioles capped off a weekend sweep with a dominating 11-1 win. Cincinnati managed just two runs in the series and at one point reached a 26-inning scoreless streak at Great American Ball Park dating back to April 25th’s shutout against the Phillies...

This series in Arlington started with another ugly performance at the plate. The Cincinnati Reds were on the receiving end of a three-hitter on Friday night as they lost 2-1. However, the bats bounced back in a major way on Saturday winning 8-4. Hunter Greene turned in his best performance of the season in that contest as the Reds took an 8-0 lead into the ninth inning. Finally, in Sunday afternoon’s rubber match, Cincinnati found themselves in a 4-0 hole after one inning and simply couldn’t dig themselves out. With the Texas Rangers winning two out of three games it dropped the Reds record to...

The Cincinnati Reds were shutout on both Monday and Thursday to bookend the series with a pair of games in which they combined for just five hits. However, they are much better offensively in between and would split the four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies. Elly De La Cruz continues to play like a star, but the rest of the Reds offense is inconsistent at best. While the bats wait to heat up though the bullpen has been a bright spot. With the four-game series split the Reds are now sitting at 14-11 on the season and two and a half games out of first place in the National League Centr...

Ultimately, if you can win two-thirds of your games you will have a chance to be the best team in baseball. The Cincinnati Reds have done exactly that over their last nine games, but it has came in unique fashion. It all stated with a dominant sweep of the Chicago White Sox outscoring them 27-5 in three games. Then, the Reds headed west and were on the receiving end of a sweep against the Seattle Mariners. Finally, the brooms were out once again with a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels upon return to Great American Ball Park. Elly De La Cruz is red hot at the plate, Tyler Stephenson connected on...

Tides turn quickly in Major League Baseball. The Cincinnati Reds headed out west after a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox. That series wasn’t just a sweep, it was a total domination. Cincinnati outscored the White Sox 27-5 over the three games. However, after the offensive break through, the bats went cold as the Reds would turn around and get swept in Seattle falling to 9-9 on the season. The final two games of the series were especially ugly as the Reds combined for just two runs on five total hits. On Wednesday, the Mariners threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 batters to complete ...

Taking care of business against the teams you are supposed to beat is a huge part of being successful. Over the course of a long, 162-game season you will lose some games, or even series, that you aren’t supposed to lose. However, when the opportunity arises to sweep a lesser opponent you need to take advantage. That is exactly what the Cincinnati Reds did over the weekend against the Chicago White Sox. It was total domination throughout as the Cincinnati Reds would sweep the series by a combined score of 27-5. Cincinnati got three very good starting pitching performances and early run support...
