A Chinese spacecraft has landed on the far side of the moon amid a growing rivalry with the United States - still the leader in space exploration - and others, including Japan, India and Europe as a whole. The mission is the sixth in the Chang’e moon exploration programme, which is named after a Chinese moon goddess.
