Zion Williamson said Tuesday that he would not return to the New Orleans Pelicans after a January hamstring injury until he felt confident in his ability to play at his usual level. He will now have an entire offseason to win this “mental battle,” as the Pelicans lost a do-or-die play-in game to the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night. “I can pretty much do everything, but it’s just a matter of the level that I was playing at before my hamstring,” Williamson told reporters. “I don’t want to go out there and be in my own head and affect the team when I can just be on the sideline supporting t...

Zion Williamson and his previously injured foot have been cleared to go through offseason workouts unrestricted this summer, the New Orleans Pelicans announced. Williamson missed the beginning of the 2021-22 season after he broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot working out last summer. He then suffered setbacks, which caused him to miss the entire campaign. Williamson played just 24 games during his rookie season after his debut was delayed by a torn meniscus in his right knee. In addition, he’s played in only 85 games during his three years in the league due to injuries. Zion’s eligibl...

As New Orleans Pelicans F Zion Williamson rehabs his way back from a fractured right foot, he has kept out of the spotlight—until Tuesday. Williamson, who has yet to play this season due to the injury, posted a video to Instagram showing him at the team’s facility throwing down an incredible dunk. He throws the ball of the backboard, catches it, shuffles it between his legs, and slams it down. After two months working out in Portland, Williamson relocated his (perhaps dubious) rehab to the New Orleans area on March 5. The team hasn’t given any official updates since, and he had only been seen ...

Facing an L.A. judge Thursday stemming from his July arrest, Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes pleaded no contest for resisting arrest and false imprisonment charges. He was facing 10 other charges, but the judge dismissed those. The 21-year-old former Texas star was arrested July 28 after the LAPD responded to a domestic incident at a home where Hayes was staying. When officers arrived, cops say Hayes refused to allow them entry before a scuffle ensued. At least one police officer sustained an injury during the kerfuffle. While cops were trying to arrest the 6’10” player—who was tased during the o...

Former New Orleans Pelicans guard J.J. Redick has criticized former teammate Zion Williamson, saying the star forward has a “lack of investment” in the franchise. “There’s a responsibility that you have as an athlete when you play a team sport to be fully invested,” Redick said. “You’re fully invested in your body, you’re fully invested in your work, and you’re fully invested in your teammates. That is your responsibility, and we have not seen that from Zion.” Redick and Williamson were teammates with the Pelicans for parts of the last two seasons prior to the former’s retirement. Redick then ...

With a stroke of bad luck, Zion Williamson, the towering 6-foot-7-inch all-muscle power forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, broke his right foot during the off-season. Pelicans fans can breathe a sigh of relief, however — It has been reported that Williamson should be available for the first game of the 2021-22 NBA season. In Williamson’s short career, he has already sustained a variety of different injuries. For someone his size, he is surprisingly nimble and has the spring and agility of players 100 pounds lighter. Perhaps his use of quick movements while toting some serious weight makes h...
