At a regular rally held in Kyiv by relatives of captured soldiers in Russia's invasion, participants said Sunday they hoped the recently concluded peace summit in Switzerland would further galvanize international support for Ukraine and boost efforts to bring prisoners home. Already, a vast majority of countries represented at the two-day summit in the secluded Swiss resort above Lake Lucerne backed a call for the full exchange of captured soldiers and the return of deported Ukrainian children.

Russian security forces stormed on June 16 a detention center in Rostov-on-Don, killing at least some of the prisoners who took two prison staff members hostage, state-owned news agency TASS reported. Russia overtook the United States in the month of May as the lead supplier of liquified natural gas (LNG) to Europe for the first time in nearly two years, the Financial Times reported on June 16.
