South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains just wrapped up spring practices with the Gamecocks a few weeks ago. The Garnet shut out the Black team 17-0 to cap off the spring session. But there’s always work to be done as a college football coach heading into the fall. With Loggains being an offensive coach, of course he hates dealing with the disruptions that defensive players cause in practices. And he let that be known a few weeks ago in a press conference with reporters, when he joked that defensive players ‘are terrorists.’ A reporter asked Loggains if he wanted to get certain lo...

South Carolina needs more out of its running backs coming off of an abysmal performance this past season. The Gamecocks ranked last in the SEC and 129th in the country with just 85.1 rushing yards per game, one of only 11 teams in the FBS that failed to average 100. They added Arkansas transfer Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, who ranked second in the SEC with 1,443 yards rushing in 2022. Sanders played in only six games this past season due to injury and missed South Carolina’s spring game a couple weeks ago as he is still recovering. That gave the other Gamecocks running backs a chance to show what ...

South Carolina added quite a bit to its running back room via transfer this offseason, with the addition of Arkansas back Rocket Sanders the headliner. Between Sanders, JuJu McDowell, North Texas transfer Oscar Adaway, SC State transfer Jawarn Howell and returning player Djay Braswell, South Carolina should have quite the competition going into the fall. Not everyone was available this spring. But the goal at the position is clear. Everyone wants to play. “We all view it the same way. We all want that spot,” Adaway said after the team’s spring game. “We all want it. But at the end of the day, ...

The Panthers didn’t own a first round pick until they traded up for one, landing Xavier Legette. And at least one analyst is applauding the selection as one of the best of the draft’s opening day. Field Yates, an NFL Draft analyst for ESPN, released his best picks and top steals of the draft early Tuesday. He’d had a few days to think about all the moves and 257 picks of the seven-round draft. The Panthers selected Legette at No. 32, i.e., the final pick of the first round. The draft was deep in elite wideouts. Legette, who most thought would end up as an early second-round pick, represented t...

ESPN insider Pete Thamel said during NFL Draft coverage on Friday that questions about Spencer Rattler’s attitude and work ethic have led to him falling in the draft. Entering Round 4 and Day 3 of the draft, Spencer Rattler is still on the board. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer took to Twitter on Saturday to defend his former quarterback. Beamer had this to say about Thamel’s report: “Such a tired, lazy narrative. And bullcrap. None of the NFL teams that called me said that…. And any team that thinks that clearly hasn’t done their research,” Shane Beamer posted. “He dealt with adversity at O...
