Detroit (AFP) - Stellantis has notified thousands of workers in the US states of Ohio and Michigan of potential layoffs, attributing the move partly to California rules that limit where vehicles can be sold. The European automaker on Thursday notified 2,455 workers in Detroit and 1,225 in Ohio of potential job loss under the federal Warn Act, which requires early notification of major layoffs. The company expects the actual number of layoffs to be "much lower" than the Detroit figure and "slightly lower" than the Ohio number, said Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson. "Due to the complexity of o...

Paris (AFP) - Stellantis beat analyst forecasts with a jump in third quarter sales despite the automaker acknowledging Tuesday the strike by its US workers cost $3.2 billion in lost revenue. The French-Italian-US automaker said revenue rose by seven percent compared to the July-September period last year to 45.1 billion euros ($47.9 billion), beating expectations. "I'm proud to say that we've delivered a strong third quarter performance," Stellantis chief financial officer Natalie Knight told journalists. Shares in the company were up 2.5 percent in European trading and were up over 3.4 perc...

Washington (AFP) - Stellantis and the striking United Auto Workers union have reached a preliminary agreement on a new labor contract, the two sides said Saturday, allowing members to go back to work at grounded factories. The tentative deal, reached after 44 days of strike action that simultaneously targeted Detroit's "Big Three" automakers, is similar to one struck earlier this week with Ford, the union said. "Once again, we have achieved what just weeks ago we were told was impossible," UAW President Shawn Fain said, adding that "we have begun to turn the tide in the war on the American wor...

New York (AFP) - The US auto workers union halted work at a giant Stellantis truck plant on Monday, expanding a five-week strike hitting Detroit automakers. The United Auto Workers action means that 6,800 workers walked off the job in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where the European auto giant assembles the highly profitable Ram 1500 pickup trucks. On Friday, UAW President Shawn Fain reported progress in talks with Stellantis, but said further concessions were necessary for a deal that would end the stoppage. The UAW's press release said Monday's action was needed because Stellantis' current off...

New York (AFP) - Stellantis urged owners of thousands of 2003 Dodge Ram pickups to "immediately stop" driving the vehicles if their Takata airbags have not been replaced, the company said Tuesday. The "Do Not Drive" consumer alert follows a May 13 fatal accident involving one of the trucks that US regulators said constituted the 26th death in the United States tied to the defective part. The company, then known as Chrysler, recalled 385,686 of the vehicles in 2015. US regulators estimate that roughly 84,000 of the vehicles remained unrepaired, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety A...

Las Vegas (AFP) - Global automaker Stellantis will produce electric "air taxis" developed by US aviation company Archer, it announced Wednesday at the major Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Stellantis will also invest up to $150 million in Archer and its vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) designed to carry four passengers in addition to the pilot, the company said in a press release. Called Midnight, the vehicle looks like a small plane with several rotors on its wings and is designed to make consecutive trips of around 20 miles (30 kilometers) with a recharge time of ...
