New York (AFP) - A judge eased a gag order on Tuesday that was imposed on Donald Trump during his criminal trial which saw him convicted of 34 counts, according to a court filing. Judge Juan Merchan imposed the limited gag order ahead of the trial, restricting Trump from commenting publicly on jurors, witnesses, prosecutors and court staff, later expanding it to include his own family and that of the prosecutor. Merchan, who will sentence the presidential hopeful on July 11, said that "circumstances have now changed. The trial portion of these proceedings ended when the verdict was rendered, a...

Detroit (AFP) - Donald Trump is so proud of a cognitive assessment he took while president that he boasted about it in a speech Saturday, while attacking what he claims is US President Joe Biden's lack of mental acuity. The only problem: he then immediately got confused on the name of the doctor who oversaw the test. Trump extolled his powers of mental recall in a speech to hard-right allies in Detroit, challenging Biden to take the same cognitive exam he says he underwent in 2018 with then White House physician Ronny Jackson. However, he immediately flubbed the name of the former official, wh...

Detroit (AFP) - Donald Trump met with Black voters Saturday as he courted a community that largely supported his rival Joe Biden four years ago but has seen notable numbers of African Americans shift allegiance ahead of November's presidential rematch. But the Republican former president also attended another campaign event later in the day with a more right-leaning audience, a gathering of the controversial conservative group Turning Point Action. Trump used his first appearance, at the 180 Church in Detroit, the largest city in the critical battleground state of Michigan, to suggest he may ...

Washington (AFP) - President Joe Biden and Donald Trump will face off in a 90-minute debate with mutable microphones, broadcaster CNN said Saturday, as it laid ground rules for the first in-person clash between the pair ahead of November's election. The rules for the June 27 debate, which will have two hosts and no studio audience, were agreed by the Biden and Trump campaigns, according to CNN. "Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip," the channel said, adding that microphones "will be muted throughout the debate exce...

West Palm Beach (United States) (AFP) - Donald Trump, whose attempted White House return is based in part on attacking President Joe Biden as old and feeble, turned 78 Friday -- just three years younger than his election rival -- with growing questions over his own health. Whoever wins the November election will set a new age record. At 81, Biden is already the oldest man to hold the office and would continue to be so, while if Trump wins, he would become the oldest ever at an inauguration. Trump, aided by the right-wing media ecosystem, has carefully worked to build an image of vigor, in atte...
