Hundreds of mourners took to the streets of Tabriz on Tuesday to pay their respects to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who was killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Among the dead were Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, a senior cleric from Tabriz, a Revolutionary Guard official and three crew members, Iran's state media IRNA reported.

University and school students in Georgia have been driving protests against the country's divisive "foreign influence" law, which critics see it as a threat to democratic freedoms and the country’s aspirations to join the European Union. The proposed law, passed by the parliament earlier this month, requires media and nongovernmental organisations and other nonprofits to register as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad.

Iranian state media broadcast footage of rescue teams searching for a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. It said what it called a “hard landing” happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometres northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
