A decadeslong antitrust saga has come to a close as Mastercard and Visa have agreed on a settlement of a rumored $30 million to limit the fees merchants face. Merchants have been pursuing a settlement for close to ten years after charges made by both credit card companies via transaction fees were seen to be hitting the pockets of businesses large and small. The European Commission has submitted a proposal to increase the basic fee for a Schengen visa in 2024. If it gets the green light, the cost will rise by 12 per cent from €80 to €90 for adults and from €40 to €45 for children. The EU is also planning to raise the fee even more for countries showing “insufficient cooperation on readmission,” which refers to accepting the re-entry of individuals expelled from member states. Schengen visas are required for citizens from non-EU countries that do not benefit from the EU and Schengen area's 90-day visa-free rule. These include nationals of South Afr...

It had already passed through the two houses of the Senate but was rejected for being unconstitutional and having no direct or indirect link to the immigration bill. The decision to reject the amendment is final as there are no appeals in France’s Constitutional Court. China exten...

On the bottom line, the competitor of American Express and Mastercard earned $4.9 billion, an increase of 17%. However, investors initially reacted cautiously to the figures. The share price fell by around 3% in the first few minutes of after-hours trading. One reason for this could be that growth has slowed somewhat and turnover ha...
