McLaren have two reasons why a move to sign Formula 1 design guru Adrian Newey is not a no-brainer and Ferrari are on pole after he confirmed his early exit from Red Bull. Teams up and down the paddock are on red alert to the possibility of signing Newey after he secured an early departure from Red Bull. The 65-year-old was under contract for the Milton Keynes team through the 2025 season but he will now step aside ahead of leaving next year. Red Bull will also not force Newey to see out a period of gardening leave, which would have prevented him from joining a rival Formula 1 team before 2027...

Lando Norris took his first-ever Formula 1 victory in Miami last weekend. And yet, he’ll still feel as if he could have driven better. Norris had threatened to take pole position for the sprint race in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session after pacing the field in SQ2. However, he couldn’t switch his tyres on when it mattered and lost nearly a second as he ended up ninth, with teammate Oscar Piastri sixth. Any hope of gaining ground in the race itself was dashed when he was taken out at the first corner, through no fault of his own. McLaren CEO Zak Brown criticised Lewis Hamilton for an ‘over...

Of all the elite drivers in Formula 1, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez is the closest to receiving a one-race ban. Perez has amassed eight penalty points over the course of the last 12 months. Under the rules, if a driver receives 12, it triggers a suspension. Perez will be wary of keeping his nose clean, especially until mid-September when one of his points expires. It remains to be seen whether the FIA would actually follow through with the threat of a ban. The system is designed as a deterrent but opinions on vary on the extent to which it has teeth. Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso is halfway there and ...

At the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season, everyone thought that the driver’s market would create the most drama off the track with so many racers out of contract at the end of the year. Lando Norris finally won a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami last weekend. It was his 110th start, and it proved to be his most memorable. Norris was coming under mounting pressure to break his duck. He admitted that his lack of victories had ‘become a thing’ after a viral heckle from one fan at the Australian Grand Prix in March. Social media trolls mocked the British driver for repeatedly falling short. They would flood his Instagram comments with the ‘Lando No-wins’ nickname, although he insists this only gave him more motivation. The 24-year-old held the record for the most podium finishes (15...

Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull in the early part of next year and his suitors are trying to convince him to join. As it stands, Ferrari are perhaps the main protagonists in the race. Newey has previously turned down three offers from the Prancing Horse. But he’s ‘seriously considering’ accepting their latest approach in what could be the final big move of his storied career. The 65-year-old, who’s due to depart in mid-to-late February 2025, reportedly held a meeting with team principal Fred Vasseur in London last week. They’re offering to make him a ‘super consultant’, which is exactly what ...
