Tokyo stocks end flat as investors await key events

Tokyo stocks ended almost flat Monday as investors were awaiting key events later this week, including parliamentary hearings scheduled for Bank of Japan governor nominee Kazuo Ueda.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 18.81 points, or 0.07 percent, from Friday at 27,531.94. The broader Topix index finished 7.78 points, or 0.39 percent, higher at 1,999.71.

Decliners were led by mining, electric appliance, and precision instrument issues, while gainers included pulp and paper, rubber products, and securities houses.
