Resistance fighters utilized the arcades to move between buildings and avoid detection by German forces. As the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches, Biden’s speech emphasized the world’s support for the Ukrainian people in their defense of freedom and democracy. The President reassured the audience that the United States would continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.
US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski stressed the importance of the venue, stating that “the symbolism of rebuilding from ashes has a profound meaning, given what we want to do, what we will do with Ukraine.” Brzezinski personally extended an invitation to the event and urged people to register on the Embassy’s website.
