Streaming service Paramount+ is launching its first-ever phone-only rate. This subscription tier will give viewers access to the same catalog other viewers can watch ad-free, but it will be cheaper. For now such an offer will only be available in two South American countries, Mexico and Brazil.

"With multi-tier pricing options, Paramount+ will reach even more subscribers by fitting diverse customer choices and grow our global direct-to-consumer distribution. With mobile entertainment consumption increasing around the world, a mobile-only option will make our slate of programming more accessible to our audiences in mobile-first countries," said Marco Nobili, executive vice president and international general manager for Paramount+.

The platform has decided to launch its brand new offer in Brazil and Mexico, based on current consumer trends in the countries. Their decision was made after an internal study showed that more than 50% of the online population in these two countries use their smartphone to access streaming services. The targeted subscription will allow access to the Paramount+ catalog, but only on one device at a time, via mobile or tablet, all without advertising.

This new tier will cost 14.90 Brazilian reals per month, equivalent to about US$2.85, or 133.90 Brazilian reals per year (US$25.50) in Brazil, and 79 pesos per month, or about US$4.20, or 709 per year (US$37.50) in Mexico. Standard subscriptions cost respectively 19.90 Brazilian reals (US$3.80) per month or 178.90 per year (US$34),or 109 pesos (US$5.75) per month and 979 pesos (US$52) per year in Mexico.

"This new offering is part of our broader strategy to scale Paramount+," Marco Nobili revealed.

However, Paramount is not a pioneer in this field. Netflix already experimented with a similar kind of offering in India before extending the concept to the rest of Asia and Africa.
