Departures and suspensions announced after first practice under new coach Matt Rhule
A few player departures, position changes and suspensions were announced Monday morning after Nebraska football's first spring practice of 2023.
Gone are tight ends Chris Hickman and James Carnie and defensive back Tyreke Jonson. Hickman and Carnie came to Lincoln as in-state scholarship recruits, and Johnson was a transfer from Ohio State.
First-year head coach Matt Rhule said running back Anthony Grant and defensive back Tommi Hill were not allowed to practice Monday. "That will be a day-by-day thing," Rhule said.
Luke Reimer, Ethan Piper, Gabe Ervin and Heinrich Haarberg were the players who spoke after the 6 a.m. practice. Their comments and more from Rhule can be found in the links and videos below.
