Good news for TV addicts: more than 800 channels are now available via Google TV, and what's more they can be accessed completely free of charge.

Google TV users can now enjoy hundreds of free channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, or Tubi in the United States, according to a statement from the American company.

Viewers can watch these channels without having to launch or download each channel's app. There's a selection of channels from all over the world and programming is available in more than ten languages.

Subscribers to YouTube TV and Sling TV have the ability to access these channels via the 'Live' tab, providing a more fluid experience.

"The new live TV experience will be available on all Google TV devices in the U.S., including Chromecast with Google TV and TVs with Google TV built-in from Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips. We also plan to bring the new TV guide and free channels to eligible Android TV devices later this year," the company specified in its release.

Google TV is available for free on compatible TVs or via Chromecast. A Google account is required, however, in order to bookmark titles. Content is also organized by category: true crime, cooking shows, reruns.

YouTube was already positioning itself as an alternative to traditional television with its own live and simulcast offering. With the boom in streaming platforms, online programs are more popular than ever, especially with younger generations.
