2023 CHEVROLET COLORADO FUEL ECONOMY: A MORE COMPLETE LOOK

The Environmental Protection Agency recently released the fuel economy numbers for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado WT with the 2.7L L2R turbo engine. That’s the base motor, for those who don’t know. This week, the EPA has released official fuel economy estimates for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado LT, Z71, Trail Boss, as well as the optional MT tires you can get with the Trail Boss.

What Is The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado EPA Estimated Fuel Economy?

With the 2.7L L2R turbo engine, we didn’t see a significant change to fuel economy within the Chevrolet Colorado without any performance loss; in fact, performance numbers have increased for the new engine, though diesel is no longer available. Fuel economy for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado WT with just 2WD will be around 20 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on the highway, and 22 combined, bringing annual fuel cost to approximately $2,300, depending on the state of oil prices. As for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado 4WD, which will likely be the most desired option, customers can expect 19 MPG in the city, 23 on the highway, and 21 combined, only adding around $100 for the annual fuel cost.

It’s hard to tell which vehicle on the chart features the upgraded engine known as the L3B since the chart doesn’t explicitly say which is which, but we can assume, based on the last numbers released by the EPA, that the L3B has a slight improvement to fuel economy over the L2R turbo engine. If the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is equipped with 2WD, customers can expect 20 MPG in the city, 25 on the highway, and 24 combined. If equipped with 4WD, that number drops slightly, with 22 combined, 19 in the city, and 23 on the highway.

Finally, at the bottom of the list is a vehicle labeled as “2023 Chevrolet Colorado Mud Terrain Tires 4WD,” which likely means the Trail Boss model with optional 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires that Chevrolet will sell you a la carte. This sees a fuel economy return of 17 MPG city, 19 on the highway, and 19 mpg combined.

Comparing this fuel economy to the previous generation 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, the fuel economy numbers are similar, but the 2023 Colorado and its 2.7L turbo engine delivers far more horsepower and/or torque than the last-gen truck ever could.
