Japan's household spending in March falls 1.9% on year

Japan's household spending fell 1.9 percent in March from a year earlier, government data showed Tuesday.

Households with two or more people spent an average of 312,758 yen ($2,300), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said.

The data is a key indicator of private consumption, which accounts for more than half of the country's gross domestic product.
