Generative artificial intelligence could soon make it possible to create custom text messages in Google Messages, in a tone to suit your mood or even in poetic form.

The 9To5Google website reports that this new feature, called "Magic Compose," could soon be integrated into Google Messages. The function makes it possible to rewrite messages in a tone to suit the user's mood, or even in a more poetic way, akin to song lyrics. Artificial intelligence is used here to generate custom replies by rewriting a simple message.

From the look of the screenshots shared by 9To5Google, by selecting a pencil icon, positioned to the right of the text in the message composition area, users will have access to a menu offering different styles, such as "formal" or "excited." As for the "lyrical" style, it generates a little poem from a simple message. So, instead of just saying "OK, I'll move the van," Messages here suggests "Sure, I'll move the van, I'll do it right away, I'll get it out of the way, so you can have your space" or "Alright, I'll move the van, it's no big task, don't you fret, I'll get it done, I'm not one to forget."

This new feature, still in the experimental stage, could be officially unveiled at the annual developers' conference Google I/O, which will take place on Wednesday, May 10 in San Francisco. Not surprisingly, this year, artificial intelligence is likely to be at the heart of Google's main announcements.
