Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), opened his weekly press conference by reviewing the actions of the MAGA Republicans this week.“Another week, another extreme MAGA legislation,” he observed.
Jeffries went on to discuss the controversial Child Deportation Act put forward by House Republicans, as well as the efforts of Congresswoman Sanchez and other Democrats to bring forth the US Citizenship Act, a “thoughtful” immigration reform as a solution to the “broken immigration” system in the United States.

Regarding Trump’s remarks at the CNN town hall where he urged Republicans to default on the US national debt if President Biden won’t agree to budget cuts Jeffries warned, “Defaulting would be catastrophic, dangerous, and devastating for everyday Americans.”
When asked by The Pavlovic Today about what, in his mind, President Trump’s return to power would mean for the United States of America, in light of his statements at the CNN town hall, Jeffries did not hold back.
“It would be a very dangerous, devastating, and destructive thing if Donald Trump got anywhere close to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” warned Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The New York Congressman stated that “an exhibit A for the trauma that the American people will experience if that were to happen were his own words and performance at that so-called town hall meeting.”
Commenting on the makeup of the Republican Party, Jeffries said that “the modern-day Republican Party is the party of Marjorie Taylor Greene, George Santos, and Donald Trump. “That’s the reality, folks. You can’t make this stuff up.”
He brought attention to the glaring hypocrisy of House Republicans attempting to pass legislation to curtail the federal government’s ability to address unemployment insurance fraud while one of their own, George Santos, faced charges for the same offense.
“At the same time,” said Jeffries, “one of the leaders of the House Republican Conference here in Washington, DC, George Santos, has been charged with unemployment insurance fraud,” stated Jeffries. “Why do I say he’s one of the leaders? Because the Default on America Act would not have passed the House of Representatives without the support of George Santos, who was the deciding vote.”
Pelosi’s successor then circled back to Trump. “And perhaps that explains why my Republican colleagues have failed to take any action to remove someone who was clearly unfit to serve in the people’s house.”
