HOW THE USA/CANADA FORD RANGER RAPTOR IS DIFFERENT FROM THE GLOBAL ONE

Finally, the United States and Canada get the Ford Ranger Raptor. Not allotted for the previous generation Ranger Raptor, which was exclusively (and confusingly) a diesel midsize truck, this second-generation Ranger Raptor is packing a high-octane twin-turbo V6 engine that is shared with the even more formidable Bronco Raptor. However, Ford fans the world over may have noticed that this performance 4×4 truck is already available in other parts of the world. And they may be wondering: is the Ford Ranger Raptor sold around the world the same as the one for the USA and Canada? Largely, yes. But we break down the differences in the article below.

The biggest difference between the “global” Ford Ranger Raptor and the USA/Canada market version is the choice of tire. The Ranger Raptor that will be sold for the USA and Canada uses an all-new tire: the BFGoodrich KO3, measuring 33-inches in diameter for this applciation. Globally, the Ranger Raptor launched with the heralded BFGoodrich KO2 tire. This choice of rubber can also be found on the likes of the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ford Super Duty Tremor, Ford Bronco Raptor, and even my personal truck. It’s the first year for the BFG KO3, and along with the Ranger Raptor, General Motors will be introducing this new tire on the GMC Sierra HD AT4X and Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2.

“(KO3) is a brand new tire for the U.S. launch. And the bumper is a different part,” said Carl Widmann, Ford Performance chief engineer to MC&T. Mirror designs may vary as well from region to region.

According to BFGoodrich, which is now a subsidiary of Michelin, the KO3 “is an upgrade from the previous KO2 model, offering improved traction, durability, and overall performance. However, it’s essential to note that the KO3 OE tire is not interchangeable with the KO2 tire of the same size on the same vehicle. Mixing KO3 and KO2 tires on your truck is not recommended.”

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor for the United States and Canada also features the “same” engine tune from its 3.0L EcoBoost V6 as the others, making 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. As for the emissions calibration, the USA/Canada truck is similar to the Australian and Middle Eastern truck. The European Union requires more catalytic converter to meet the region’s hyper strict requirements.

As for the Mexican market, the Ford Ranger Raptor can already be found there, as it’s the same global model that’s sold in Europe, Australia, Middle East, and other regions. That truck is made in Thailand, and is exported everywhere. The USA and Canada market version is built in Wayne, Michigan, alongside the Ford Bronco SUV.
