With the approach of the summer season in the northern hemisphere, there's a flurry of posts on social networks advocating various diets, each more outlandish than the previous. Recently one unusual product in particular has won over several TikTok users: morosil candies. Fans claim that chewing these sweets can help a person lose weight easily and quickly.

Morosil now counts over 83 million views on TikTok. The most common form of taking morosil is in gummy format,. These look like lozenges or winegums and boast the same taste as the gummy candies we ate as children. Morosil gummies, which contain extracts of blood orange and cider vinegar, are claimed to have powerful slimming virtues, with some claiming those who take them lose weight without exercising more or changing diet.

Manufacturers of these products promote them as a metabolism booster, a fat burner and even an appetite suppressant. Advocates claim that just by eating these candies several times a day, they have reduced their waist size. In some territories gummies are available over the counter in certain drugstores or health shops, at prices ranging from 35 to 60 dollars depending on the quantity purchased. Some TikTok influencers have even taken to reselling them on the internet, setting their own prices and showing off the effects on their bodies as a selling argument.

On TikTok, several before-and-after videos praise the benefits of morosil by showing a flat stomach, love handles that are minimized or even gone and a reduction in waist size in a short time. One internet user claims to have lost more than 20 pounds in three months and notes that she "kept going to the bathroom" as her "stomach was eliminating everything." The trend has cropped up in multiple posts originating from various countries, with the appearance of more and more videos advocating morosil as the quick slimming solution in several languages.

Nevertheless, it's difficult to verify whether these photos and testimonies are legitimate. The communication around these products can also be dangerous and misleading, especially for young people. In the comments of a video, we see young users tempted by the product: "Can it be used by someone age 16?" or "I'm 14 years old and I want to lose 5kg."

Many nutritionists have spoken out about the posts about these products, many of which they consider misleading, particularly from the manufacturers who seem to promise that you will get rid of extra belly fat. In an interview for France Info, the nutritionist Corinne Godenir says: "That's absurd, you can't choose where you lose fat." In 2022, anAmerican study noted that morosil could "supplementation with the standardized extract (of morosil] may significantly contribute as a complementary strategy in weight management programs" for instance "when used in conjunction with diet and exercise." Moreover, like other supplements designed to help people slim down, they can have side effects such as vomiting, abdominal pain and stomach cramps.
