Comedian Roseanne Barr is still angry at her former Roseanne co-star Sara Gilbert, her on-screen daughter on both the original beloved sitcom and its 2018 revival, The Connors, which was canceled after Barr shared a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Barack Obama.
Barr received massive backlash from her controversial comments, and several celebrities, including Gilbert, were quick to criticize her.
“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least,” Gilbert wrote in a tweet.

During a recent interview with Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show, Barr slammed Gilbert for her actions, saying that she “stabbed me in the back” and “repeatedly twisted” the knife.
“It was her tweet that canceled the show,” Barr told Kelly. “She wrote, ‘It’s sad when one cast member,’ that’s what she called me after she begged me to come back, saying ‘I’ve got your back. This time I won’t let anyone at you, let anyone hurt you. I’m gonna protect you. I know you have mental health problems but I’m gonna be there. I’m gonna stand in the way.’ This is all the crap she told me.”
Barr explained that despite her assurances, Gilbert went on to betray her by tweeting “something about racist blah blah,” which devasted her.
“And I was floored. I was just floored,” Barr recalled. “And you know, but she ends up owning my work and Tom Werner becomes her partner in owning my work.”
Barr believes that the only reason they asked her to join the reboot was just to “set me up to steal my show from me. I don’t know why. But that was the thanks I got for bringing 28 million viewers per week.”
“And making everyone rich,” Kelly added. “I mean they all got rich. And that’s the thing about Sara Gilbert, she got rich and famous.”
“What really made me mad is that they denied me the ability to go on any of their other shows to apologize to the audience for offending people,” Barr continued. “They de-platformed and silenced me so that I couldn’t even explain my tweet or apologize to black people to say, ‘I’ve lived my whole life as a civil rights activist.’”
“The fact that they would call me a racist really twerks me off and I reject it. I don’t take any of their labels, they’re all completely fake,” Barr exclaimed.
Barr then went on to criticize ABC for the way they killed off her character, saying that it was “really really horrific” because one of their co-stars had previously died of an opioid overdose in real life. “To write that off and have me do it, to insult his family that way, it just makes me sick,” she told Kelly.
Barr also claims to have later called Gilbert to ask her to stop talking about the situation on the CBS show The Talk, which Gilbert created and co-hosts. “It wasn’t enough that she stabbed me in the back, and did what she did to me there, but then she would go on her talk show every day and talk about how shocked she was at my racism on top of it,” Barr told the podcast host.
“I called her up and I said, just like this, ‘You better shut your blanking mouth about me, I’m telling you. You better shut your effing mouth.’ And then, she did,” Barr recalled, before adding that “my voice can be very scary.”
Barr then went on to accuse her co-stars and ABC of trying to “push” her “to suicide. “They just tried to kill me, and I felt like they killed my character and my character,” Barr told Kelly. “I thought they were sending a message over the airwaves because they knew I had mental health issues. I thought they wanted me to kill myself, and all my friends did too. They said they’re trying to push you to suicide.”
“Cancel culture, it’s not just cancel culture. It’s murder culture. Cause they never stop either. They’re not happy until you’re unable to work and ultimately unable to live,” Barr said before later adding “But that isn’t going to happen with me.”
