2024 CHEVROLET COLORADO ZR2 BISON: OFFICIAL DETAILS

With last year’s debut of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, we knew it was just the beginning of a next-generation of highly capable midsize GM trucks. Today, we turn the page to the 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison. And like the last-generation truck, the new ZR2 Bison is done in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, featuring AEV badging, wheels, bumper, and underbody plating to create the most capable overlanding pickup truck one can buy from the factory. Let’s take a closer look…

2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison: Details

Making use of the GM 2.7L I-4 Turbo High-Output DOHC engine, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison will have 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque sent to its wheels via a Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission, just like the standard ZR2. In addition, the truck’s suspension features Multimatic DSSV dampers like the standard ZR2, but the Bison gets first-ever Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers to improve the ride quality on the assorted terrain it’ll take on.

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison gets an upgrade to its tire size with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. By comparison, the new Ford Ranger Raptor features 33-inch tires, and is now the most you can find in the midsize truck class. In addition, we imagine the upgrades to the tire size and suspension result in a slightly taller truck, likely around 2 inches, as is expected for the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition coming for 2024 as well.

Naturally, the Colorado ZR2 Bison gets the AEV underbody armor treatment, which significantly improves underbody protection over the base ZR2. Finally, the 2024 ZR2 Bison will receive a winch-ready front bumper, which further enhances the off-road performance of the midsize truck, should you or anyone else get stuck and need recovery. Pricing is not immediately available, but look for it to command a couple grand more than the standard Colorado ZR2, which currently starts at $48,295 at the time of this writing. We’ll probably end up around $55-grand for the Bison, which is Ranger Raptor territory.
