Football: Marinos move joint top after leaders Kobe's match postponed

Reigning champions Yokohama F Marinos moved level on points at the top of the J-League first division on Saturday after coming from behind late to snatch a 3-2 win away to 10-man FC Tokyo.

Leaders Vissel Kobe had their scheduled home game against Kawasaki Frontale postponed after the visitors were unable to travel due to Typhoon Mawar. Kobe, with a game in hand, stayed top on 33 points via goal difference.

Tokyo went a man down in the 69th minute and Marinos attacker Marcos Junior slotted home the 89th-minute winner at Ajinomoto Stadium after fellow substitute Kota Mizunuma's cross was not dealt with by the home side.

"It was a wonderful ball," Marcos Junior said of his teammate's assist, which enabled Marinos' third straight win. "We had a man advantage, but it was important to get ourselves in the right positions and play with composure."

Anderson Lopes gave visiting Marinos the lead within 40 seconds of the kickoff, as his well-taken glancing header off Brazilian compatriot Yan Matheus' cross flew into the top far corner.

Tokyo dominated possession after going behind and former Marinos man Teruhito Nakagawa, who was a constant threat on the hosts' right wing, sent in a cross for Diego Oliveira to volley home the leveler in the 34th minute, with the goal confirmed following a long video review for a possible offside.

Oliveira turned the game around 10 minutes later as the forward rose to meet Ryoma Watanabe's fine cross from the left. Masato Morishige's header from a corner hit the bar moments before the break as they finished the half strongly.

But it was Marinos forward Lopes who leveled the tie with a brace of his own, side-footing a close-range volley into the net following a cross from the left by Eduardo.

Things got worse for Tokyo when half-time substitute Kuryu Matsuki, who captained Japan to a group-stage exit at the under-20 World Cup in Argentina last month, was shown a straight red for swinging his arm at Marcos Junior, who came up with the late winner. Tokyo remain on 19 points.

Elsewhere, Nagoya Grampus moved a point behind Vissel and Marinos after coming from behind to beat Cerezo Osaka 3-1 at home. Shonan Bellmare drew 2-2 with Albirex Niigata.
