As part of Steam’s growing festival Next Fest Robot Squid have launched a demo of their upcoming PvP Team Arena Shooter, ‘Big Fat Battle’, ahead of its release in July. The game sets itself apart by combining cross-genre mechanics with a striking art style and intense gameplay. Big Fat Battle drips with parody, pitting absurd characters against each other in attrition based knockout rounds where you build unique and ridiculous loadouts with each playthrough.
Available now to play on Steam, Big Fat Battle’s demo showcases the first level, a bright and intricate enclosure where dinosaurs roam free. Players choose from indelible characters ranging from knights to sharks, bikers to babushkas, and even Randy, a leopardskin-clad garden gnome. They traverse dangerous environments to challenge other players, progress through multiple knockout rounds and collect coins to expand their loadout through a roguelike system of weapons, upgrades and buffs. Only a few will make it to the end in a fight for supremacy.
Early Access Launch in July
Early Access will launch in July with three maps, the game worlds brought to life with vivid and colourful graphics. Players can party at a neon-zombie music festival like no other, venture across a mysterious island where dinosaurs roam free, and fight to survive through the dark decks of an alien-infested spaceship.
The gameplay manipulates various factors to give a more engaging combat experience. As Robot Squid’s CCO, Chris Dawson puts it, “We wanted to play with underutilised variables in PvP – things like non-uniform character scale, agility and even head size! This combined with a roguelike style upgrades within a team based knockout structure and you discover something uniquely fun”
With intense fights and an art style that keeps it all fun, Big Fat Battle appeals to gamers of all ages in varied battles that can keep players entertained for hours.
