New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga earned his seventh win after throwing eight innings of one-run ball with 12 strikeouts as the New York Mets rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Wednesday.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Senga's batterymate Francisco Alvarez hit a game-tying solo home run, and Mark Canha tripled in the go-ahead run at Chase Field for the Mets' fourth consecutive victory.
Senga (7-5) found his rhythm after he got Christian Walker to ground into an inning-ending double play to escape a two-on jam in the first.
The 30-year-old rookie from Japan held the D-backs to four hits, including a seventh-inning homer by Walker, while matching his MLB best with a dozen strikeouts, and walking one in a 107-pitch outing.
"I didn't want to give up the game's opening run, but I'm glad we won," Senga said. "I was able to express what I wanted to do. I was able to locate many of my pitches in the strike zone. Alvarez and I got into a rhythm. It was a good outing."
David Robertson worked the ninth in relief of Senga for his 13th save.
Among other Japanese players, Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-4 in the Los Angeles Angels' 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on his 29th birthday.
It is the first time this season the two-way star has gone hitless for three games in a row.
