Prince Harry was greeted with an awkward silence at a recent charity polo match in Singapore, a source reported.
"Harry probably doesn’t have any body language for moments like this — when he is left alone, un-hosted and virtually ignored by the others at the event," body language expert Judi James told an outlet.
The Duke of Sussex was in the nation to take part in the Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup, which directly benefits the charitable organization the prince co-founded in the mid-2000s. This is even more significant since the Duke was essentially given the cold shoulder at his very own event.
After the match concluded, Harry's royal applause was less than grand, which left James to observe that "as a royal, he would have been guaranteed to be the center of attention in a group setting and used to getting admiring smiles of polite flattery when he was out at events, but that clearly isn’t a given now his royal status has gone."
The news comes amid an ongoing challenge for both the prince and his wife, Meghan Markle, who are experiencing both a Hollywood freeze-out and an ongoing distancing from senior members of the British royal family. The royals' freezing out stems from their attacks on the institution, while Tinseltown is said to be snubbing the pair due to their sensationalism and recent career failures.
Despite the cold shoulder he received at the match, Harry seems determined to not let negativity bring him down. Earlier in the tour, the fifth in line to the British throne told a crowd of Japanese journalists, "I’ve been involved in many charities for most of my life, and I get a huge amount of fulfillment giving back to as many people as possible. My life is charity, always has been, always will be."
"Your warmth, your compassion, your generosity, every single element of the Japanese culture is really unique and very, very special," he continued before concluding, "I noticed it my first visit four years ago when I came for the Rugby World Cup. And I would happily live here if you’d have me."
