Football: Minamino leads Monaco to victory with brace, assist

Japan attacker Takumi Minamino scored Monaco's first two goals and set up their third Sunday in a 3-0 win at home to French top-flight opponents Strasbourg.

The 28-year-old Minamino opened his account for the season in the 20th minute at the Stade Louis-II, winning a challenge and firing a long-range shot past Matz Sels in the visiting goal.

The former Salzburg and Liverpool man doubled the lead for Adi Hutter's side 16 minutes later when he headed home off Caio Henrique's cross.

Minamino teed up Wissam Ben Yedder for Monaco's third, finding the striker running into space before he buried a shot from the left of the area.

Having also logged an assist in Monaco's opening-round win over Clermont, Minamino has made a flying start to his second Ligue 1 campaign following a difficult debut season in which he saw limited action and scored just once.

Elsewhere in France, Japan winger Junya Ito had an assist and countryman Keito Nakamura made his first start for Stade de Reims in a 2-0 win against visiting Clermont.

In Italy's Serie A, Samurai Blue midfielder Daichi Kamada made his debut for Lazio, getting the start in their 2-1 loss away to Lecce.

Former Japan captain Makoto Hasebe, meanwhile, became the oldest player to take the field for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany's Bundesliga -- at 39 years and 214 days -- after coming off the bench in their 1-0 win over visiting Darmstadt.
