Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Trump Is ‘The Only Candidate For Speaker’

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 22: U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene speaks during a court hearing on April 22, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia. U.S. Rep. Greene is appearing at the hearing in a challenge filed by voters who say she shouldn't be allowed to...

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) stated on Tuesday that the only person she will support as Kevin McCarthy’s(R-California) replacement for House speaker is Donald Trump.

“The only candidate for Speaker I am currently supporting is President Donald J. Trump,” wrote Greene on X. “He has a proven four-year record as President of the United States of America.”

In her post, Greene listed a variety of promises that Trump will fulfill if he is elected as speaker – including securing the U.S.-Mexico border and ending the war in Ukraine.

“He received a record number of Republican votes of any Republican Presidential candidate! We can make him Speaker and then elect him President!” she continued. “He will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

McCarthy was removed as House speaker on Tuesday in a 216-210 vote.

Greene did not vote in favor of stripping McCarthy’s title – she had been one his biggest allies in the Republican caucus.

Greene is one of a few Republicans pushing for Trump as speaker.

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) announced on Tuesday he will be submitting the necessary paperwork to nominate Trump.

Although Greene and other right-wing members are pushing for Trump to fill the position, there’s a strong possibility that he might not be eligible.

Trump is currently facing a variety of felonies, including a few federal cases across numerous states and deeming him ineligible.

As stated in rule 26 of the House Republican Conference, a “Member of the Republican Leadership shall step aside if indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed.”
