Simone Biles Becomes Most Decorated Gymnast In History – And Keeps Adding More Medals

After becoming the most decorated gymnast ever this weekend, Simone Biles added more to her medal collection with a silver in the vault at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in Antwerp.

During the vault, she fell while attempting the eponymous Biles II for a 14.433 score.

In her second attempt, Biles scored 14.466 for a total average of 14.549. She kept first place until Rebecca Andrade, who was the last of the gymnasts to compete, finished with an overall score of 14.750. The bronze medal went to Yeo Seo-Jeong of South Korea.

It was her only medal for the day, Biles went on to finish fifth in the uneven bars. 

On Friday, Biles passed Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo’s 33 overall medals across both the Olympics and World Championships. She won a record sixth all-around gold. In addition to her silver vault, Biles later added balance beam and floor exercises, which gave her a total of 37 medals.

Aside from Biles, the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics has been a successful showing for USA gymnastics. Biles’ teammate Shilese Jones won bronze in the individual all-around and uneven bars, while the Men’s team won bronze in the team all-around, which was the team’s first World Championship medal since 2014. Khoi Young won silver in the pommel horse and vault, while Fred Richard won bronze in the individual all around.
