With major efforts on tuning GM vehicles featuring its encrypted Global B engine and transmission controllers finally seeing a leap forward, it was only a matter of time before the newest and biggest Chevrolet and GMC trucks would get the supercharger treatment. The standard engine for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2024 GMC Sierra HD is a muscular pushrod V8 engine, codenamed L8T, that features 6.6-liters of displacement, with 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. It’s a workhorse of an engine, and can be found in the Navistar-built Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty, as well as the Isuzu-based Chevrolet Low Cab Forward commercial trucks as well.
So, what if somebody wanted to put a blower on it? Enter Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, who seem to be teasing just that. However, mum’s the word on what kind of power we can expect from a supercharged L8T V8 engine, let alone the price.
Nevertheless, Lingenfelter knows its way around tuning a GM V8 truck engine.
For the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks, Lingenfelter offers a Magnuson supercharger package for both the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines adding some 45 percent more horsepower. To achieve this, the tuning company uses its own exclusive integrated supercharger management system, along with Eaton Advanced (TVS R) High Helix Four-Lobe Technology for maximum efficiency across the entire speed range. Cooling will likely be courtesy of a unique lid and intercooler geometry that optimizes airflow across the Charge Air Intercooler. The updgrade also comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. That’s a benefit to consider, as the starting price for the 6.2L and 5.3L engines is $8,750 USD.
What does that all mean for a supercharged 6.6L L8T V8 in a Chevrolet Silverado HD or GMC Sierra HD? It could mean something very similar in terms out increased power, as well as how much the package may be priced from. And with the 2023 SEMA Show just weeks away, we may have our answers very, very soon.
