Is Earth in Starfield?

Starfield takes place in our same universe — just in the future. Since this is supposed to be the same universe, is Earth a planet you can visit in Starfield?

The short answer is yes, Earth is in Starfield! But Earth looks a lot different in Starfield than the planet we know now. Humanity has left Earth, leaving the planet abandoned. It’s also considered a hostile environment, meaning the weather makes it almost impossible to live on.

What happened to Earth in Starfield?

Earth essentially lost its atmosphere. Sarah Morgan explains to you that Earth — once full of oceans and lush greenery — is now a big desert. Humans were given about 50 years to evacuate in anticipation of this harsh new environment.

All of this happened centuries ago so some people in the game who don’t travel are not even sure if Earth still exists.

Can you visit Earth in Starfield?

Yes! You will actually be able to travel to Earth very soon into the game. You will even be told to visit Earth as part of the second main mission, The Old Neighborhood.

But remember, you’ll need enough fuel to get there. It’s located in the Sol star system so be prepared ahead of time.

  • Open your Starmap
  • Zoom out until you can see all of the star systems
  • Select Sol
  • Locate Earth and hold the Jump button
  • Once you’re zoomed in on Earth, you can select Set Landing Target

The landing target can be anywhere on Earth. There are currently no settlements.

Things to do on Earth in Starfield

So there’s no people on Earth… What can you actually do? The top thing to do on Earth is explore the ruins.

While exploring, you will come across a collection of snow globes inspired by landmarks that have since perished.

  • London – The Shard
  • Los Angeles – The US Bank Tower
  • Shanghai – The Shanghai Tower
  • Hong Kong – The International Commerce Center
  • Osaka – The Abeno Harukas
  • St. Louis – The Gateway Arch
  • Dubai – The Burj Khalifa
  • New York – The Empire State Building
  • Cairo – The Pyramids

Before you can find these snow globe locations, you’ll need to read certain books scattered across various solar systems.

Nothing useful comes from collecting these snow globes but it’s a fun little thing for completionists.

You can also collect resources:

  • Chlorine
  • Dysprosium
  • Iron
  • Lead
  • Water
