英語「Between you and me」の意味と使い方
これから話す話題が、一般的なものかごく個人的なものかなどを示す話題の幅や、内容の正確性についてあらかじめ伝える表現を練習しましょう。
Generally speaking, our meetings last around three hours.
一般的に言えば、私たちのミーティングは３時間続きます。
Strictly speaking, until we reach a conclusion, we should not discuss the issue outside of the office.
厳密に言えば、結論に達するまでは、社外でその件について議論しないほうがよい。
Specifically, she said that I got too angry and lost my cool.
具体的には、私はひどく怒っていて冷静さを失っていた、と彼女は言った。
Roughly speaking, we will need at least 10 meeting rooms for the convention.
大雑把に言えば、大会を催すには少なくとも 10室のミーティングルームが必要です。
Between you and me, I’m getting married next month. But I’m not going to quit my job.
ここだけの話ですが、私は来月結婚します。でも仕事を辞めるつもりはありません。

ちょこっと解説♪
- これから話す内容の適用の範囲をあらかじめ述べる表現には、Generally speaking、In general、Between you and me などがあり、正確性については、Roughly speaking や Strictly speaking、To be exact、Broadly speaking などがあります。
- Generally speaking のかわりに In general と言うことができます。
- Strictly speaking は To be exactと言っても同じ意味を表すことができます。
- Specifically は Concretely speaking や In concrete といった表現もできます。
- Roughly speaking は roughly のかわりに broadly を使うこともできます。
- Between you and me は、「ここだけの（あなたと私だけしか知らない）話ですが」という意味の表現。 you and me のかわりに us や ourselves でも使えます。
