The transfer portal has been open for collegiate volleyball and now Nebraska can begin its delayed start to the offseason.
With the Huskers taking their season as far into December as possible with the national title match, NU players did not jump into the portal as early as those from eliminated teams. Attrition is expected, though, as Nebraska has no seniors and a pair of talented incoming freshman in Skyler Pierce—a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Kansas and the No. 4 player in the 2024 class—and Olivia Mauch—the No. 2 defensive specialist in the class from Bennington.
Despite adding a high profile transfer last season in Merritt Beason and recently having Lexi Sun and Kaitlyn Hord brought in, don't expect coach John Cook to create additional attrition with a flurry of portal additions.
"I like what we're doing," Cook said after the championship loss to Texas, regarding the Longhorns' use of transfers. "I like recruiting kids and trying to make them be great."
