Not long ago, we covered a story surrounding the Ford F-150 Raptor R and Ford’s intentions to give it even more power to surpass the benevolent Ram 1500 TRX in the Horsepower Wars™. At that time, Ford was just a few horses short of out muscling the mighty Hellcat truck, and Raptor R drivers had to accept that they were two horsepower less than TRX drivers. Except, they no longer don’t.
2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R: What’s New
Ford has found an extra 20 horsepower; they achieved this with a smoother-flowing intake boot and better engine management calibration, resulting in a broader and more usable torque curve. Though the truck’s torque number hasn’t changed from the previous year, it still sits at 640 lb-ft. Considering its might and size, you may not notice the extra 20 horsepower while driving the truck, but it’s always great to have those bragging rights, even if the Ram TRX is no longer in production.
Even though production for the Ram TRX will no longer be underway for the 2024 model year, the truck will still be available with a less powerful configuration, named the Ram RHO. There is still significance in Ford’s decision to retune its most super of super trucks. But added power isn’t the only thing coming to the Raptor R for the 2024 model year. Ford is bringing a modular front bumper to the refreshed F-150 Raptor, and hopefully, that means it’ll come to the Raptor R as well, which should give even more off-road capability to the game thanks to the tire having more access to obstacles. On top of that, Ford Engineers are adding new symmetrical hood graphics and blackout tape micro-texture paired with Code Orange coloring to create an unforgettable theme. So, the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R will be memorable, especially if it gets that modular front bumper.
It wasn’t long ago that the F-150 Raptor R launched, using Ford’s epic supercharged 5.2-liter V8 from the 760-horsepower Mustang GT500. When the truck debuted, the standout was that the power was reduced to 700 ponies, which wasn’t a big deal considering the truck was still lighter than the TRX and, therefore, faster during a quarter-mile.
