Nebraska Topples No. 1 Purdue

The college basketball world's eyes were fixed on Lincoln Tuesday night.

Nebraska handled the No. 1 team in the nation from tip to final buzzer, taking down Purdue 88-72. The win is the first over a top ranked team for NU since 1982 when Big Red beat unbeaten Missouri.

The Huskers improve to 13-3 on the year and 3-2 in the Big Ten Conference.

Rienk Mast scored the first seven points for Nebraska but Purdue put together a flurry of 3s to take a small lead. The Boilermakers would hold the lead for about nine minutes before NU finished the half on a 13-0 run.

Despite Purdue cutting the deficit to one in the second half, Nebraska never relinquished the lead. The Nebraska defense held Purdue to just a single basket in the final four minutes as the lead was salted away by four free throws in the final 1:03.

Then Husker Nation stormed the court.

Nebraska shot 50.9% for the game, including 14-for-23 from 3. Purdue made 42.1% of their shots and went 13-of-33 from deep.

Keisei Tominaga led all scorers with 19 points, with 15 of those coming on 3s. Mast finished with 18 points with CJ Wilcher right behind at 16 points.

Reigning National Player of the Year Zach Edey had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Nebraska goes on the road Friday to face Iowa.
