When Stellantis released its full-year sales results, it was revealed that two “new” Dodge Vipers had found homes. Remember that the last Dodge Viper rolled off the Conner Avenue Assembly line in 2017, making it the last of the V10-powered iconic American supercars. So, how did the brand just sell two more six years later?
The answer is more simple than you may realize. According to Mopar Insiders, the two units had been patiently waiting in dealer inventories for someone to come and swipe them up. Some cars make it through an entire generation in the time that these two Dodge Vipers patiently awaited their homes. Then again, it’s hard not to pass up the opportunity to get your hands on one of these supercars if you had the chance, and getting one new is even more spectacular.
Looking back, Dodge sold around 31,500 units produced between the Mack Avenue assembly plant from 1992 to 1994 and then the Conner Avenue assembly plant, which had the Epic car from 1995 until the end of production in 2017.
By the time production for the Dodge Viper came to a close, the legendary track and street vehicle had an all-aluminum V10 engine, which produced a whopping 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. With all this power, no single Dodge Viper made its way off the assembly line with an automatic transmission. That meant drivers of the car got to enjoy complete control as they shifted through all six of the gears the transmission had to offer. The pinnacle of the Dodge Viper’s run was the maniacal fourth-gen Viper ACR. About as extreme as any road legal car short of those hyper-exotic homologation specials, the Viper ACR produced 1,710 lbs of downforce at 177 mph thanks to its massive rear wing, while going on its way to set multiple lap records at tracks across the United States. Dodge would also introduce unprecedented customization options for the Viper 1 Of 1 Program, which amounted to 25 million possible total build combinations, thanks to 8,000 hand-painted exterior colors, 24,000 hand-painted custom stripes, 10 wheel options, 16 interior trims, 6 aero packages, as well as a host of standalone options. Go figure that Dodge Viper values have held steady or greatly appreciated since the end of its production in 2017, making this all-American supercar a sought after investment.
